Giuliani: Wrong from Ground Zero

"I was at Ground Zero as often, if not more, than most of the workers,” Giuliani claimed without actually bursting into flames or being struck by lightning.  “I was there working with them. I was exposed to exactly the same things they were exposed to. So in that sense, I'm one of them."

What does that mean, exactly?  Did Rudy Giuliani dig through the rubble for up to twelve months, exposing himself to countless toxic substances while searching through the rubble for dead bodies?  Did he spend weeks or even days digging through the rubble?  Ah, not exactly.  He stood above and away from those workers (though, when possible, not out of camera sight of them), and talked about what great work Rudy Giuliani was doing to recover the bodies, and then he was out of office, traveling around the country delivering $50,000 speeches telling of his heroism and leadership skills, while others who go unsung were still sifting through the aftermath of 9/11.  Granted, Giuliani has been exposed to several overcooked chickens during this campaign season.  That’s practically the same as dying from exposure to something after 9/11, I imagine.

And, to close, a brain-teaser:  Given that the vast majority of the recovery workers are opposed to Rudy Giuliani's candidacy, and Giuliani says he's one of them, then it follows that Giuliani hates Giuliani, right?

Giuliani and His Amazing Disappearing Supporters

Giuliani seeks to highlight momentum by announcing activists and officeholders' support which he had already announced before.  The momentum, clearly, rests entirely on the growing number of faxes emails sent out, rather than any actual...um...people, but it had worked for about a week, as reporters talked about Giuliani’s momentum, until a couple of reporters actually bothered to check and discovered all these “new” supporters had been working for Giuliani for some time.  Giuliani actually deserves some credit for this particular sneaky and dishonest maneuver.  This was a clever way to take advantage of some reporters’ willingness to recycle press releases as actual news.

But it should come as no surprise.  When it comes to cynical bids to take credit for things for which no credit is due, Giuliani is the master.

Liar, Liar

Former Governor Mitt Romney claimed his dog Seamus "loved" the 12 hour terror ride on the rooftop of a car.  I would expand on the absurdity of that claim, but I don't work blue.  No word on whether Romney's pants burst into flames when he claimed this.
