The Greatest Show on Earth
Mike Bloomberg has just left the Republican party and become an independent. This is clearly a trial balloon towards a third party candidacy for President. The word is, last year he asked a friend how much money it would take to run for President, and he was told $500 million. He said, "Oh." He spent something like $100 million to run for Mayor of New York the first time around. A half billion or a billion dollars to be President has GOT to strike him as a steal. Plus he's going to be able to save some money, because everybody's going to start polling on how Bloomberg would perform against the other candidates. Republican Senator Chuck Hagel has already flirted with the idea of joining a Bloomberg ticket as Veep.
Remember, Ross Perot got 19% in 1992, and he ran on the cheap, plus he was CRAZY. Bloomberg is unquestionably smart and relatively sane and if he decides to run, he will be able to spend more money than both of the other major candidates put together. This already looked like an interesting Presidential race.,,and a very good year to name your price as a political operative. But if Bloomberg comes in as a third party candidate, this will truly be the greatest show on Earth.
