Giuliani and His Amazing Disappearing Supporters

Giuliani seeks to highlight momentum by announcing activists and officeholders' support which he had already announced before.  The momentum, clearly, rests entirely on the growing number of faxes emails sent out, rather than any actual...um...people, but it had worked for about a week, as reporters talked about Giuliani’s momentum, until a couple of reporters actually bothered to check and discovered all these “new” supporters had been working for Giuliani for some time.  Giuliani actually deserves some credit for this particular sneaky and dishonest maneuver.  This was a clever way to take advantage of some reporters’ willingness to recycle press releases as actual news.

But it should come as no surprise.  When it comes to cynical bids to take credit for things for which no credit is due, Giuliani is the master.
