The Candidate from Central Casting
Okay, I know I'm a bit late to the party on this topic, but I still run into the occasional reference to Fred Thompson's movie star good looks. Seriously? This is a guy who can't travel on a commercial flight because of those bags he's carrying under his eyes. I've liked some of his performances, myself...and if we're faced with a fictional terrorist threat, he'd be a good candidate, though somewhere after Keifer Sutherland, Harrison Ford, and Jennifer Garner. But as a Senator, he made Strom Thurmond look hyperactive. It's weird to see someone run for President on an image that has so little to do with his past performance.
Don't get me wrong. Credentials are not a great indicator of Presidential performance. Thompson may turn out to be a great President. After all, at the time of the previous Presidential race, the highest office Abraham Lincoln had achieved was as a state senator from Illinois.
Hey, wait, does that resume remind you of anyone else? Maybe, say, a certain Midwestern candidate with movie star looks?
